ALMACO will modernize the existing galley areas as well as indoor and outdoor areas onboard Empress, the vessel recently transferred to the Madrid-based cruise and tour operator Pullmantur from parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. ALMACO’s scope entails the supply and installation of new equipment in the galley areas and new counters in indoor and outdoor areas. ALMACO’s involvement in M/S Empress is yet another example of ALMACO’s strong collaboration with Pullmantur.

Pullmantur EmpressIn addition to the supply and installation of new equipment in the existing galley, ALMACO’s scope comprised several modifications to the indoor and outdoor areas. For instance, the existing counter in the indoor area will be extended and modified, and a completely new counter will be installed. In the outdoor panorama buffet, there will also be a completely new counter. On top of the complete stainless steel package, ALMACO will also handle the facings and decorations as well as all piping and electrical elements. The dry dock will start on November 8 in Gibraltar.

During the previous year, ALMACO has worked onboard most of Pullmantur’s vessels, including S/S Sky Wonder, S/S Oceanic, M/S Zenith and M/S Pacific Star. The latest large-scale Pullmantur project ALMACO was involved in was onboard M/S Holiday Dream, which in May 2008 entered service for the new France-based cruise line CDF Croisières de France as M/S Bleu de France.

M/S Empress of the Seas was built by Chantiers de L’Atlantique in St. Nazaire, France, and joined the Royal Caribbean fleet in June 1990. ALMACO has a thorough understanding of this vessel as ALMACO had significant participation in the vessel’s large-scale refurbishment in May 2004 under Royal Caribbean. ALMACO modernized several Food Handling Areas, Public Areas, and 800 cabins. ALMACO also created new Food Handling Areas that included, among others, a new specialty galley. Still under Royal Caribbean in 2006, ALMACO also refitted 600 bathrooms in the passenger cabins and renovated areas such as the Pool Deck, Dining Room, Passenger Cabins and Crew Day Room. Under Pullmantur, M/S Empress will help meet demand for Pullmatur’s distinctive style of cruise holidays in the Spanish market.
