ALMACO Group awarded a shipwide modernization contract on board M/S Island Sky
ALMACO modernizing cabins and public areas on Island SkyALMACO Group has been awarded by Salen Ship Management (SSM) the contract to modernize the passenger areas on board M/S Island Sky.
ALMACO will refurbish 27 Suites, 32 Cabins, and the corresponding 59 Bathrooms, as well as public areas such as the Club, Library, Lounge, Restaurant, Purser's Desk & Lobby, Corridors, Outdoors and Public Toilets. The refit will take place during the month of May 2010.
ALMACO’s Accommodation Systems turnkey scope includes design, engineering, supply and installation of material, through final commissioning. Additionally, ALMACO provided architectural services. The purpose of the refit is to upgrade all areas though keeping the overall character of the vessel. Soft furnishings and carpets will be replaced, and each deck of passenger cabins will have a different color scheme; however, classic deluxe features such as the wood paneling and brass fixtures will remain.
The most significant upgrade will take place in the cabin bathrooms, which will be completely replaced in all 59 cabins. The modernization of the Public Areas such as the Lounge and Restaurant will incorporate new furniture, lighting and color scheme upgrades. The Outdoors section will be refurbished with new decking and a general upgrading of outdoor furniture.
M/S Island Sky, which was built in Italy in 1992, has the passenger accommodation arranged over five decks and all suites have outside views. Those on the lower deck have portholes, the middle two decks have large picture windows and the two top decks have patio doors leading on to a private balcony. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom, large wardrobes, vanity table with large mirror and stool and large storage. The vessel, under charter by Noble Caledonia, sails a variety of itineraries from cruising around the British Isles, voyages in the Mediterranean and Baltic, as well as more exotic journeys to India, Africa and the islands of the Indian Ocean.
