ALMACO's Refrigeration Plant onboard Oasis of the SeasALMACO Group’s market leading Refrigeration Machinery will be featured onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas, which was delivered in October, 2009. ALMACO’s cooling plant, made of four systems, will support the needs of Royal Caribbean’s groundbreaking 5,400-guest, double occupancy, Oasis of the Seas, which operates under the Royal Caribbean International cruise brand. Serving approximately 550 refrigerated catering equipment, 87 air coolers for frozen and cold rooms, and one ice rink, the combined systems make it the Refrigeration Plant with the highest number of cold consumers ever installed on a cruise ship.

ALMACO’s scope of work included the supply of the cooling plant for provision stores, food handling equipment and ice rink; the glycol pumps and pumps’ starter panels; fluids such as refrigerant oil and glycol; air coolers for cooling the provision stores; room’s temperature control panels; as well as the control and monitoring supervision system. The scope also includes the supply and installation of the direct expansion piping network, with an approximate length of 2,300 meters, and the installation commissioning.

The cooling of the provision stores, the galleys and restaurants’ refrigerated equipment, and the ice rink, features control systems developed for direct expansion and glycol cooling systems, introducing enhanced regulation functions such as EEV¹ control, adaptive defrosting and new SCADA² modules for energy consumption monitoring, maintenance help and quick trouble shooting.

ALMACO’s Refrigeration Plants fulfill the present US public health (USPHS) regulations and comply with the relevant classification society requirements. The company’s plants are designed in accordance with rules aimed at making the system more environmentally friendly.

Royal Caribbean International’s new-generation, 225,000-gross-registered-ton cruise ship "Oasis of the Seas" was built by STX Finland Oy, Turku Shipyard. Oasis of the Seas is designed around a seven neighborhood concepts, offering the widest range of onboard amenities that cater to each guest’s individual style and preferences.
