LD Lines's latest newbuild to feature complete turnkey works with ALMACO's Accommodation & Food Handling Systems
ALMACO was contracted to deliver a complete turnkey project for Cabins, Corridors, Galley, Provision Stores and Refrigeration Machinery for the latest newbuilding ferry vessel being built at Singapore Technologies Marine’s shipyard for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs’ subsidiary LD Lines. The contract was signed in November 2008 and the project is scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2010.
ALMACO’s Accommodation Systems division will deliver a full turnkey for 226 Cabins and Corridors on both passenger and crew decks. The scope of supply includes design, supply of material, assembly, installation onboard and all background works such as ducting, piping, insulation, electrical. The design and standards of the cabins are of higher quality than those offered in earlier vessels.
ALMACO’s scope of work for the Food Handling areas consists of design, supply, installation and background works (ducting, piping, insulation, and electrical) of all food handling components including Galley with Bars and Buffets, Provision Stores and Refrigeration Machinery.
The total Galley area to be delivered is 550 m2, with approximately 250 m2 belonging to the main galley located on Deck 7, and the remainder belonging to pantries and crew mess pantry. Also on Deck 7, ALMACO will build the Cafeteria, Drivers’ Restaurant and 3 Bars. Two of the bars will have a common pantry, to be used as Main Bar and Coffee Shop, and the third bar will have an individual pantry to serve as the first-class Lounge Bar equipped with 140 sleeper seats. Additionally on Deck 7, the Cafeteria will have a self-service line and island counters, and the Drivers’ Restaurant will have its own self-service counters with own scullery.
ALMACO will also deliver the crew mess, crew pantry, and a fourth bar on Deck 9, which will serve as the Economy Lounge with reclining seats. All counters and equipment for the bars are tailor-made to fit LD Lines’ requirements.
ALMACO’s Provision Stores and Refrigeration Machinery will be located on Deck 2. Out of the 14 provision stores, 4 of them are negative temperature and the rest are positive temperature. There will also be 1 walk-in provision store in the main galley on Deck 7. The total area for Provision Stores covers 384 m2.
ALMACO’s global reach allows for international expertise as well as a strong local presence. The European Project Manager currently resides in the country and receives support from ALMACO’s Singapore office. His team, consisting of both Europeans and locals, bring the perfect mix of European quality expertise and local understanding.
This ferry vessel will be classed by Bureau Veritas for short international voyages and it will serve the purpose of reinforcing the line’s services in the central part of the Channel, between Le Havre and Portsmouth.
