ALMACO Onboard Norwegian New Ships at Meyer Werft

Following ALMACO’s deliveries of Norwegian Breakaway in April 2013 and Norwegian Getaway in January 2014, ALMACO will deliver the Food Handling areas with increased scope onboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s new ships to be delivered in 2015 and 2017 at Meyer Werft.

Similarly to the previous two ships, ALMACO’s scope for these new orders includes design, supply and installation of all catering-related equipment in the Galleys, Bars, Buffets, Pantries, Provision Stores and Refrigeration Machinery.

Furthermore, the galleys of the two new ships will be equipped, as the previous ships, with ALMACO GEM (Galley Energy Management),a system developed by ALMACO that enables ship owners to drastically reduce the power consumption of the cooking equipment in the galley areas, which is one of the largest consumers of electrical power on cruise ships.

The next two ships will also have ALMACO REM (Refrigeration Equipment Monitoring) system to control and monitor the refrigeration plants, provision stores and the galley refrigerators with one single system, allowing a full overview of the hundreds of cold consumers of the ship.

“Both the Newbuilding and the Technical Operations teams at Norwegian Cruise Line and Meyer Werft have embraced the energy-saving potential from all these new systems and are now seeing the positive results from the delivered ships,” says Joseph Kerebel, Vice President Newbuilding of ALMACO’s Marine division, based in Nantes, France. “These systems will provide the necessary information for Norwegian Cruise Line to continue improving the energy consumption of their current and future newbuilds,” Mr. Kerebel adds.
