ALMACO completes its Millennium Class Cabin Project
In mid-May, ALMACO delivered its third Millennium Class New Cabin -project to Celebrity Cruises. During the three week dry-docking, 60 new cabins were installed onboard Celebrity Millennium; the same scope was completed earlier in December 2011 on Celebrity Infinity and in January 2012 on Celebrity Summit.
During each project, ALMACO pre-assembled all 60 modular cabins in Freeport prior to the ship’s arrival to Grand Bahama Shipyard. As part of the project, the shipyard delivered new aluminum housing, which ALMACO pre-outfitted before the blocks were lifted onboard. All the work that was done prior to the dry-docking, allowed ALMACO to complete the new cabins areas, located on decks 11 and 3, within the challenging three week time frame. As part of its turnkey delivery, ALMACO also designed, supplied and installed all insulation, piping and electrical in the new cabin areas.
ALMACO was able to shorten the duration of the pre-assembly of the cabins and the actual onboard installation on each ship due to increased effectiveness. Applying lessons learned from previous ships was an important task for ALMACO’s project team. “It was rewarding to see how the installation process became less stressful on each ship” says Antti Jumisko, ALMACO’s project manager. “These projects were possible due to the high level of planning that went into pre-fabricating every possible part of the area in order to have the cabins available for guests when the ship left the shipyard” Jumisko continues.
